COWDEN -- Dieterich edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead and went on for a 56-48 win over the host squad to win the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Movin' Maroons and Bobcats were tied at 25-25 at halftime before Dieterich had a 17-5 third quarter run and went on for the victory.
Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Miley Britton led the way with 18 points while Kady Tegeler added 16 and Brummer 10.
CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with 18 and Mady Wojcik with 15. Wojcik pulled down 12 rebounds. Heckert led in steals with six and assists with four.
In the third place contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 36-21 winner over Cumberland.
BSE led 8-2 after the opening quarter and 18-8 at halftime. BSE continued the second half with an 18-13 run.
Laney Baldrige led the way for the winners with nine points.
Cumberland was led by Katelyn Shoemaker and Abbie Becker with six each.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg won the fifth place contest over Meridian, 59-32.
WSS held a 17-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back as Ella Kinkelaar scored nine of the team's 17 first quarter points.
Kinkelaar went on to lead with 22 points while Elli Wittenberg and Morgan Mathis added 11 each.
Ramsey won over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 42-36 for seventh place.
Named to the All-Tournament Team were Ella Kinkelaar (WSS), Paige Dittamore (Cumberland), Lexi Seabaugh (BSE), Cortney Brummer (Dieterich), Madison Wojcik (CHBC), Macee Rodman (CHBC), Gracie Heckert (CHBC) and Miley Britton (Dieterich) who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.
