A nightmare second quarter was the difference in the championship game of the Boys 7-2A State Tournament Thursday night.
St. Philomena of Peoria defeated the Dieterich Roadrunners 40-29, but it was a 15-0 second period that decided the contest. Dieterich led the contest 6-4 after the first quarter, but were down 19-6 at halftime. It was 35-20 St. Philomena after three quarters beore Dieterich outscored them 9-5 in the fourth quarter to lose by 11.
For Dieterich, Bryce Bohnhoff led the way with 15 points. Also for the Roadrunners: Mason Niemerg 9, Alex Schottman 3, and Riley Koester 2. Other players on the Dieterich squad included Ben Schottman, Collin Nichols, Cooper Stortzum, Malachi Cook, Blake Westendorf, Sylus Niland, Traden Kessler and Logan Gipson.
Coach Campton and the guys finished a great season with a 25-3 record.
